Our Loafers are red bottom shoes for men: black patent leather tassel loafers on a genuine leather sole finished in red and embossed CHARGEO. We make one style, in black, in UK sizes 6 to 12, at R3,500. Each pair is made to order, so allow up to two months. It is a slip-on for evenings and occasions, with a tassel on the front and no laces or buckle. The upper is plain black with a high-gloss patent finish. The red shows when you walk or sit, and again when you take the shoe off, because the lining and the insole are red leather too. We are a luxury fashion house, born in South Africa, and this is the only loafer we make.

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. For marks or scuffs, use a barely damp cloth, then dry immediately, patent leather should never be left wet. Keep away from direct sun and heat, which can dull or crack the patent finish over time. Store with shoe trees or stuffed with paper to hold shape, and avoid oil-based leather conditioners, they are not suited to a patent finish.

What Makes These Red Bottom Shoes for Men?
The sole is genuine leather finished in red, with the CHARGEO name embossed into it.
The red is a finish on leather, so it marks where the sole meets the ground, and rough paving marks it sooner than carpet. We would put the pair on at the venue.
Which Size Should You Order?
The Loafers fit true to size, so order your usual UK size.
South Africa uses the UK shoe size system, so the number on our size list is the one you already know. We make whole sizes only. A slip-on has no laces to adjust, so if you are between two sizes, call us on 069 119 2954 before you order.
When the pair arrives, try it on at home before the day:
- Stand on carpet. Our return policy accepts a pair only in like-new condition, and carpet keeps the red sole unmarked.
- Wear the socks you will wear on the day.
- Try both shoes. Left and right feet often differ slightly in size, and the larger foot decides the fit.
- Walk a few steps. Your heel should stay in the shoe.
If you know your size in another system, use the table. The figures come from the adult size equivalence table for the footwear sizing standard ISO/TS 19407. The foot length is the one that table gives for each UK size, rounded to the nearest millimetre. We have not measured it on our shoe. European sizes do not fall on the same lines as UK sizes in that table, so we give the European size on either side.

To measure your foot, stand barefoot on a sheet of paper with your weight on both feet. Mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe, then measure between the marks.
When Do You Wear Black Patent Tassel Loafers?
Wear them to an evening or an occasion, with dark formal clothes: a wedding, a matric dance, a gala dinner or an awards evening.
With a dark suit, we would have the trousers hemmed to rest on the top of the shoe, so the tassel stays in view. We would wear black socks. The black tie convention is black socks made from fine wool or silk. Our leather belts are made to order too.
They are the wrong shoe in three cases.
- Wet lawns. Patent leather should never be left wet, and we advise against a leather sole on wet grass. For a garden wedding after rain, wear another pair.
- Everyday wear with chinos. We think the patent shine belongs with formal clothes, and daily pavements mark a red sole.
- Strict black tie. By tradition the most formal black tie shoe is a patent leather pump, and the more popular choice is a black lace-up Oxford. If the invitation is strict, wear one of those. At a black tie party with a relaxed host, the Loafers go with a dinner jacket.
